Verbier town's 3 nursery slopes are on a separate (cheaper) ticket so are a good place for never-evers to start without paying for the whole Verbier lift network.
    - Les Moulins
    - Les Esserts
    - Le Rouge

Advanced beginners and intermediates warming up will probably advance to the blue runs. There are 4 in Verbier, and there are some in the other areas (Nendaz, Siviez and Thyon), but there is no easy access from the Verbier lift system. The 4 blue runs in Verbier (accessed by the Verbier lift system) are:
     - La Chaux 1 & 2
     - Lac des Vaux 1
     - Médran 1

Les Moulins - Just for Kids, this is where the
Ecole Suisse de Ski teaches the kids how to ski (1 drag lift).

Never-evers start in the Les Esserts ski area, where there is 1 chairlift and 2 moving walkways very close to Verbier town. Gone are the days where people learn to ski towed by a difficult to use T-bar. Nowadays you can step onto a moving walkway and concentrate on learning how to ski downhill. It's conveniently located next to a restaurant and the Hameau bus stop.

Progress to the nearby Le Rouge area (with one drag lift and two slopes) where the terrain is slightly steeper. Le Rouge runs between the field near the Brunet bus stop and Carrefour at the  top of the village.

The La Chaux area is sunny and popular with beginners. Not only are there nearby restaurants but there is also a snowpark with sounds to watch the pros.

Accessed by a quad chair Lac des Vaux is another good area.

The Médran 1 blue piste is just a road to get back into town from the Ruinettes station down to the bottom of the Médran. Because it is a narrow track and is crossed by lots of red pistes, it is not the best run available!

  • What's the difference between On and Off piste skiing?

The difference is: The piste is a marked trail which is graded for difficulty and can be groomed or ungroomed. They are a part of the ski resort and are maintained and ski patrolled. Off piste-skiing means that you are leaving these boundaries and you can encounter any kind of snow condition from nice fluffy powder, to ice and rocks, trees, and cliffs.

Are you ready to go off piste? A little check list:

     - Go in a group - you should seriously consider hiring a
mountain guide - they will be best able to take you to the best off-piste skiing for the current conditions and your ability level.
     - Don't know where you are going? Go with someone who does.
     - Have the right equipment. Basic off-piste equipment is an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe - add more if you are going on a glacier
     - Know the current avalanche conditions, have the right equipment and know how to use it.
     - Know the current weather conditions and be aware that they can change very quickly

Have any questions? A Téléverbier staff member is available at the Chalet du Freeride (at the Attelas lift) to answer any of your off-piste skiing questions.
  • It's snowing -where do I go?

    Bad Weather options:

    In Verbier
    - Vallon d'Arvy (off piste) - the access can be whiteout and subject to avalanche danger.

    With the 4 Valleys Pass
    - Bruson - low altitude tree skiing
    - La Tzoumaz - tree skiing

  • Important Advice

If you miss the last lifts in the other valleys, you could be stuck with an expensive taxi ride back to Verbier.
